Visiting The Seychelles

Close your eyes for a minute.

Cast away all worries and sink your toes in the sand of your perfect beach escape. Imagine soaring high above a private island by seaplane. Imagine swaying coconut trees towering over your cliff-side villa and watching the sun set over the ocean. Imagine rediscovering your inner peace and spiritual well-being – swimming, SPA-ing and indulging in all the decadent tasting experiences (champagne included) that your heart desires. Imagine that.

These layers of perfection are easily discoverable along one of East Africa’s most under-appreciated island, the Seychelles.

Best Time to Go

Like any island, the Seychelles is dominated by dry and wet seasons. The ideal time range to visit is April through October in which you’ll experience warm, mild weather with less rain compared to November to March. However, it’s important to identify the seasonal activities you are interested in to ensure you visit during the right season. For example, surfing is best May to September while diving in crystal clear waters is better in the months April to May and October to November.

Note: All photos/video footage were taken during the month of June.

Key Areas To Visit

While the Seychelles may only resemble a tiny dot on the world map, there are 115 beautiful islands, the most popular being Mahe, La Digue and Praslin. Praslin easily stole my heart and so did their best kept secret, Le Chateau de Feuilles!

Discover Le Chateau de Feuilles

The Scene

Perfectly perched on top a small hill overlooking the ocean, Le Chateau de Feuilles is one of the most intimate and exclusive hotels along Praslin island.

As soon as your arrive, be it by car or helicopter, you’re immediately surrounded by crystal blue waters, layers of perfectly manicured exotic flowers and a stylish decor to match. This is truly paradise!

There aren’t many hotels that offer an ocean view in every single room category. There are 9 rooms and suites in total, each with their own personal touch. I opted for the 2-bedroom ocean view villa. The beauty of this room is that it’s uplifted for the best unobstructed views of the ocean and the lush foliage surrounding the villa. Within you’ll find 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a private garden and walkway, a super cute living room, an iMac computer and an open-air balcony deck with a hammock, rockers and endless ocean views.

Food & Drink

Michael (Chef) and Avi (Food and Beverage Manager) prepped the tastiest meals and made the best drinks! Treat yourself to several rounds of the Chateau Special! Also, the dinning area is absolutely stunning – amazing views! Be sure to inquire about the Chateau’s room & board special offers.

Activities & Amenities

Le Chateau de Feuilles has their own private island, need I say more?

As soon as my speed boat pulled up to the shores of Grande Soeur (also known as Big Sister Private Island), I knew I was in for a treat. All guests staying at the chateau can venture off to the private island for a fee inclusive of transportation, beach barbecue lunch and drinks. Most importantly, you’ll have the island to yourself – miles of deserted white sandy beach to be lazy in a civilized manner!

Alternatively, back at the chateau, you can easily relax at the hot tub overlooking the ocean, read a book by the pool, indulge in one of many treatments at the spa or make use of your FREE car rental provided by the hotel.

Le Chateau de Feuilles is truly a hidden gem. Consider it a secret you only tell your best friends. In order to maintain their exclusivity and personal touch, bookings can only be done directly, not through a third party. At Le Chateau de Feuilles you escape the typical “resort-like” ambiance compared to other properties throughout the Seychelles.

Alexandra, Diane, Avi, Rajiv, Manesh, Mukesh and Michael, thank you! No request went unanswered. Cedric (the owner), Le Chateau de Feuilles gets 10 out of 5 stars!

Things to Consider

The Seychelles is very expensive. While there are moderately priced hotels throughout the island, let’s be honest, this is a destination where luxury accommodations are just a must (for me at least). Plan & budget accordingly. If your hotel is located on the main island, Mahe, dine out more vs. dinning at your hotel. Tours can also be very costly. Be sure to shop around for the best price without sacrificing quality.

Tips Before You Go:
  • Hotel recommendation in Mahe: Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa | The H Resort Beau Vallon Beach
  • Getting around: Ferries can be arranged via Cat Cocos for transport between Mahe, La Digue & Praslin. Bookings should ideally be made 48 hours in advance.
  • Local SIM cards can be purchased at the airport after customs.
  • The most widely accepted currency is Euros.
  • Visas are not required for most countries for stays up to 30 days.
